Research Bio
Dr. Yingbin Hu joined the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering as an assistant professor in 2019. He earned his Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering from Texas Tech University in 2019, an M.S. degree in Manufacturing Engineering from the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley in 2015, and a B.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering from Shandong University in 2013.
Dr. Hu possesses approximately a decade of experience in advanced manufacturing, which encompasses fields such as additive manufacturing, field-assisted manufacturing, and advanced machining. His research portfolio includes a combination of experimental and modeling endeavors, covering a diverse array of materials including plastics, metals, ceramics, composites, and biomaterials. In total, his research output comprises over 60 academic contributions, including journal articles, patent, and conference papers. Notably, these works have been published in esteemed journals like Materials Horizons, Composites Part B: Engineering, and Additive Manufacturing.
Dr. Hu has actively engaged in the evaluation of others' work, frequently serving as a judge. Dr. Hu’s role as a reviewer extends to over 30 prestigious journals and internationally recognized conferences, such as Advanced Functional Materials, Composites Part B: Engineering, and Additive Manufacturing. Currently, Dr. Hu is honored to hold the position of associate editor for the Materials journal, and he has taken on the role of an editor for the “State-of-the-Art in Additive Manufacturing” special issue.
Dr. Hu is an active member of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME), and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Dr. Hu has served as session co-chair for both the ASME-MSEC and SME-NAMRC conference sessions in multiple years. He has an impressive publication record in the SEM & ASME associations, with over 20 academic works to his name.
