Biography
… received his Ph.D. in ecology from Vanderbilt University and is now a professor of Biology and Interdisciplinary Studies at Miami University. My research areas include community-driven conservation, participatory science, and national education reform. I am the founding Director of Project Dragonfly and served as Editor-in-Chief of Dragonfly magazine–the first national magazine to feature the investigations of children. Project Dragonfly has grown through some great partnerships to reach millions of people through a range of past and current science reform initiatives, including award-winning print media, graduate programs, public exhibits, and the Emmy-Award winning national PBS children’s television series, DragonflyTV. I’ve written for academic and public audiences and have directed projects funded by the National Science Foundation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, the Organization for Tropical Studies, and other agencies. I am fortunate to work with the stellar Dragonfly team running the Advanced Inquiry Program, Earth Expeditions, and the Global Field Program. Prior to Project Dragonfly, I studied scorpions in Baja, served as a Luce Scholar in Malaysia, a Fulbright Scholar in Thailand, and taught environmental education at Yale University.
