Fred Nucifora
Global Partner: Australia
... after studying education at James Cook University, Fred taught senior geography and biology in high schools. Fred’s first real involvement in environmental education was when he took on the role of the school-based coordinator for the G.L.O.B.E (Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment) program. It was from this moment that Fred wanted to focus on education as a way toward environmental sustainability. Fred has worked at the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority since 2001, this career move gave him the opportunity to focus on two of his passions in life, the marine environment and education. Fred was the Director of ReefHQ Aquarium, the Australian Government’s National Education Centre for the Great Barrier Reef for ten years and now leads the Reef Education and Stewardship section of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority. Fred currently oversees the Authority’s Tourism Reef Advisory Committee, the High Standard Tourism Operators Program, the Master Reef Guides Program, the Reef Guardian Schools Program, and other formal, outreach and community education programs facilitated through ReefHQ Aquarium.
