Julia Walz
Site Affiliation: Woodland Park Zoo
… is a learning coordinator at the Woodland Park Zoo and is excited to work with the Advanced Inquiry Program. She was most recently a high school biology teacher, although much of her career has been spent as an animal keeper working primarily with primates. She also has experience with a wide variety of animals including all kinds of arthropods, birds, marine mammals and carnivores. While working as a zookeeper she also fostered her love of teaching as a community college instructor introducing undergraduate students to zoo science, animal behavior and conservation. She has a B.S. in Evolution and Ecology from UC Davis and an M.S. in Biology from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. Julia is fascinated by and loves learning about life on our planet (especially animals); she has a passion for the intersection of animal behavior and conservation and a desire to inspire everyone to learn about science and the scientific process with the goal of encouraging everyone to become life-long learners through the power of informal science education. In her spare time, you may see her on her local trails taking in the wild places of the Pacific Northwest and spending time enjoying nature anyway she can!
