Biography
Carrie Washburn received her B.S. in Zoology from Michigan State University and an M.S. in Biology from Central Michigan University. Her master’s thesis involved amphibian movement patterns influenced by celestial cues. She also tracked snakes to understand habitat use and worked with honeybees to understand ways they navigate and communicate. Prior to teaching, Carrie worked with The Nature Conservancy as a Wetlands Restoration Specialist. She enjoyed working in fen habitats while collaborating with local landowners and communities to promote stewardship. Her travels to Australia, the West Indies and Amsterdam, along with field work in Michigan, Oregon and Canada, have increased her awareness of global issues and the importance of non-traditional methods of teaching. Carrie lives in Chicago with her husband and children and enjoys traveling in her free time.
