Parking and Transportation
Parking can be quite limited on campus and students are encouraged to carpool when possible. Permits are required, and can be purchased online or from Parking and Transportation Services in Nellie Craig Walker Hall (Room 034) beginning in August, about 10 days prior to the fall semester start.
Most commuters will get a yellow parking permit for $200 annually. This pass will allow you to park in one of three lots - Chestnut Fields, Millett, and Ditmer Lot. All three of these lots are considered "Park and Ride" options, and students are encouraged to ride the BCRTA bus system (free with Miami ID card) from the lots. Blue permits are for graduate students and others with extenuating circumstances.
If you happen to live near the Middletown or Hamilton campuses, you can also park with your yellow permit at the regional campuses and ride the BCRTA bus into Oxford for free. Some students choose this option to save gas money, catch up on reading during the ride, or avoid driving in inclement weather.
Some students also choose to purchase a garage permit in addition to the yellow permit. However, you may pay the hourly or daily rate at the garages without a pass.
Buses
Students are encouraged to use the Butler County Regional Transit Authority (BCRTA) system for transportation around campus and the city of Oxford to reduce vehicle traffic that leads to congestion and pedestrian safety issues. The BCRTA is free with your Miami Student ID.
