What is a Student Success Navigator?

Student Success Navigators have a unique role at Miami University, providing individualized, holistic support for undergraduate students who are in the exploratory stage of their college experience. Working with students to explore their options, Student Success Navigators serve students at the intersections of multiple domains, including major exploration, course selection, financial, emotional, and social health, and academic performance.

The Student Success Navigator supports students who are exploring majors and assists them in progressing toward any degree at Miami. Student Success Navigators are highly competent, rigorously trained professionals prioritizing student well-being, centering authentic relationships in every interaction. Our mission is to assist students in obtaining a rich and meaningful college experience.

Student Exploration Process at-a-glance

Orientation

  • During orientation, incoming Exploratory Studies students and families will learn about exploratory studies, identify their interest area, and work with a Student Success Navigator to select first-semester courses
  • Exploratory Studies students are encouraged to attend the Exploratory Studies Welcome to learn more about the program and begin building community. 

Fall Semester

  • Students will receive proactive communication from their Student Success Navigator about important information throughout the semester. Refer to the Student Communication plan in the next section. 
  • Students will schedule an initial meeting with their Student Success Navigator to begin the exploratory process.
  • Students will meet with an assigned Student Success Navigator to complete a spring registration appointment. 
  • Students will meet with a Career Advisor in the Center for Career Exploration & Success

Spring Semester

  • Students will meet with their assigned Student Success Navigator to continue the exploration process. 
  • Students can enroll in EDL 100: College and Career Development 
  • Students will participate in at least one OES or CCES program. 

Fall and Spring Term (Year Two) 

  • Students meet with their assigned Student Success Navigator twice a semester to solidify their exploration and transition plan.
  • Students will confidently select a major and transition to their major advisor
