The REEES Major allows you to choose from two tracks, one that focuses on language and culture and one that focuses on history and politics; there are also minors available in the Russian Language and in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies. The REEES program at Miami allows you to explore in-depth one of the most important regions in the world. Majoring or minoring in REEES opens up many career paths. Our recent graduates have gone on to top M.A. and Ph.D. programs, have worked for the Peace Corps, have received prestigious fellowships, and have landed positions in a variety of fields. 


What can I do with a degree in Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies?


Get into a Top Graduate School
Upon completion of the REEES program, students have pursued advanced degrees at prestigious institutions including George Washington University, Georgetown University, Indiana University-Bloomington, The Ohio State University , and overseas at Central European University in Budapest, Hungary, and the European University in St. Petersburg, Russia.


Receive a Prestigious Fellowship or Grant
Students in the past have received fellowships in places such as Russia, the Republic of Georgia, and Washington, DC. Past fellowships have included the Carnegie Junior Fellows Program through the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace and Fullbright.


Join the Peace Corps
Students graduating with a background in REEES have received placements with the Peace Corps in Albania, the Republic of Georgia, and Ukraine.


Teach English as a Second Language
Many students have taught English in Georgia as part of the "Teach and Learn with Georgia" program.


Become a Consultant or Researcher
Miami students have gone on to work for consulting firms with strategic interests in the region such as Oxford Analytica and the Global Business Policy Council of A.T. Kearney.
