An inside look into the Westboro Baptist Church:
A research-based discussion centered on time spent in Topeka, Kansas

For several years, Dr. Hillel Gray has been visiting members of Westboro Baptist Church at their home in Topeka, Kansas, in an ongoing project of ethnographic research that grapples with the question: What is an ethical way to respond to extreme religious groups?

In Summer 2018, some Miami students accompanied Dr. Gray on one of his research trips to Topeka. On November 5, seven of those students will discuss their experiences interviewing and forming relationships with members of Westboro Baptist.
