I teach introductory physics, and am interested in physics education research. The goal of my classroom is to show that physics is not as terrible and scary as you may think. Time spent lecturing is minimized to allow more opportunities for students to work together in groups on challenging problems, tinker with lab apparatus, and experience interactive demonstrations.

My research focuses on how students interact with laboratory activities, specifically the types of changes that can be made to create activities that are engaging and help students construct their own understanding of the physical world.

Outside the classroom I enjoy activities like backpacking, rock climbing, triathlon, bird watching, and board games.
