Ready to Declare?

For more information or to declare a minor in Gerontology, please contact the advisor, Dr. Kate de Medeiros at

Age and aging are powerful, compiles, and multidimensional processes that shape the human experience from birth to death. Rapid and significant growth of the older population is a global phenomenon; virtually every nation in the world has become, or is in the process of becoming, an aging society. In the U.S., the population age 65 and over is projected to grow from nearly 13% in 2000 to almost 20% in 2030. Miami University's minor in gerontology provides a comprehensive understanding of the aging processes. It is designed for students from any major who are interested in knowledge about the impact of aging on individuals, families, communities, and societies. A gerontology minor is also useful for students whose careers will likely put them in contact with older people.
