Observation Hours:
- We believe observation hours to be an important piece of the application package and a chance for the applicant to witness the field of athletic training firsthand before committing to the graduate degree program. We require verification of at least twenty (20) hours of clinical observation under a BOC-certified Athletic Trainer. Students do not have to complete observation hours with an AT affiliated with Miami University (but certainly may). A formal letter from the AT that verifies the observation will suffice for the application package. An hour log may also be submitted, but is not required.
- In the verification letter please include:
- The name and credentials of the AT you observed.
- Contact information (email and mailing address) for the AT you observed.
- The specific clinical setting (e.g., High School Athletics; Outpatient Rehab Center).
- The total number of hours observed.
- The signature of the AT with date.
- Please be aware that observation hours with a Physical Therapist are not eligible unless that individual is dual credentialed as both a PT/AT.
Personal Statement:
- Why have you chosen to pursue Athletic Training?
- Who/What has influenced your decision to study Athletic Training?
- What are your long-term goals with the field?
Letters of Recommendation:
- Two (2) separate letters of recommendation.
- Letters should come from individuals (aside from family members) who are able to properly assess your potential for the graduate program.
- Examples of individuals appropriate include faculty members, high school teachers, coaches, employment supervisors, organizational leaders, school counselors and advisors, faith leaders.
- The AT observed may be asked to write a letter of recommendation, but this should be separate from the Observation Hours verification letter.
