Steps to Graduation

Graduation Procedures and Requirements

  • Apply for graduation online through BannerWeb and pay a commencement fee by the application deadline dates in order to graduate (see Important Dates and Deadlines). Information about graduation can be found at OneStop.
    • Certificate application - $10.00
    • Masters and Specialists application - $35.00
    • Doctoral application - $200.00 (covers the cost of the diploma and the hood)
  • Follow the formatting guidelines for submitting your thesis or dissertation. More information can be found in the Policy Library. If you are completing a thesis or dissertation as part of your degree, you must comply with the format check and upload deadline dates (see Important Dates and Deadlines below).
  • All Miami University academic integrity charges against a student must be resolved and sanctions completed before a student is eligible to graduate.
  • A student's cumulative Miami graduate-level grade point average must be at least 3.00. A student may not have grades of incomplete or be under academic probation to take a comprehensive examination, take a final examination for any graduate degree, or graduate.
  • Academic attire questions should be directed to the Miami University Bookstore.

Graduation Dates and Deadlines

Before you can upload your thesis or dissertation to OhioLINK, you must have the format of your manuscript checked to be sure it conforms to the Graduate School's requirements

When you believe your document has been formatted correctly, please email your PDF to  gradschool@miamioh.edu to begin the format check process. You must be aware of the format check and OhioLINK deadlines below. All forms must be turned in to the Graduate School no later than 10 working days before the date of commencement.

* Printed Program Deadlines

December/January degree candidates who apply to graduate on or before November 10, 2025, will be included in the December 2025 printed ceremony program. The names/degree(s)/honors of those who apply to graduate after November 10 will be printed in the May 2026 ceremony program.

May/August degree candidates who apply to graduate on or before April 6, 2026, will be included in the May 2026 printed ceremony program. The names/degree(s)/honors of those who apply to graduate after April 6 will be printed in the December 2026 ceremony program.
