Young Painters Competition: Awards ceremony and reception Jan. 30

The winner of the 2015 Miami University Young Painters Competition for the William (Miami '36) and Dorothy Yeck Award will be announced in an awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, in the Hiestand North Gallery.

A reception will be held 4:30-6 p.m. in the gallery lobby for Xuan Chen, the winner of the 2014 competition.

This national competition for artists 25-35 celebrates the current trends in contemporary painting. This year's competition focuses on representational realism painting.

The 2015 competition winner will receive the $10,000 William and Dorothy Yeck Award, and the painting will become part of Miami’s permanent collection. 

The works of the 10 competition finalists are on display through Feb. 10 at the Hiestand North Gallery.

Chen's work is on display through Feb. 13 in the exhibition "Color" in Hiestand's Robert E. and Martha Hull Lee Gallery.

The 2015 Young Painters Competition was juried by Franklin Sirmans, the Terri and Michael Smooke Curator and Department Head of Contemporary Art at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art.
