Bargaining Update Jan. 31, 2024

The University and the Union met on Jan. 31, 2024 to continue collective bargaining negotiations for the first faculty contract. The Union presented counter proposals on Grievance and Arbitration and Academic Freedom, and the University presented counter proposals on Faculty Evaluations (responsive to the Union's TCPL Professional Development Plan (PDP) proposal) and Parking.

The University rejected the Union's Dec. 6, 2023 proposal on Financial Exigency and Retrenchment because the University’s Management Rights proposal, presented to the Union on Oct. 18, 2023, contains a provision that reserves to the University the right to effectuate layoffs, reductions and force, as well as all hiring decisions. The University also presented a new proposal on Facilities and Support, which responded to language proposed by the Union in its Association Rights and Academic Freedom proposals.

Additionally, the Union presented a suite of new benefit proposals on Retirement Contributions, Sick Leave, Professional Development, Tuition Remission, Academic Leave, Paid Parental Leave, and Dual Career Hires.

The parties will meet next on Feb. 21 and 26, 2024.
