Bargaining Update August 7, 2024

The University met with the Union on Aug. 7, 2024, for collective bargaining negotiations. Prior to the bargaining session, on July 13, 2024, the University presented the Union with a Memorandum of Understanding related to the AI Taskforce (“MOU”) for its review. As previously conveyed by the University, the purpose of the MOU is to codify the parties’ agreement that the participation of bargaining unit faculty on the AI Taskforce does not constitute direct dealing, and that the Union agrees not to pursue any unfair labor practice charge related to any bargaining unit faculty member’s past or current participation on the AI Taskforce. During the session, the Union objected to the MOU and stated its intent to present the University with a revised document.

The Union also presented counter proposals on Benefits, Discipline and Discharge and Grievance and Arbitration. The parties have been working towards an agreement on the discipline and discharge and grievance arbitration articles over the last several sessions. The Union’s most recent proposals continue to move in this direction. The University presented proposals on Appointment, Promotion and Renewal of TCPL Faculty and Appointment, Promotion and Renewal of Tenure-Track and Tenured Faculty. The University also rejected the Union’s Emeritus/Emerita Faculty and Salary Adjustment Studies proposals presented at the July 8 bargaining session as the topics addressed in these proposals are managerial prerogative.

The parties are scheduled to meet again next week on Aug. 14.
