Student Employment

We believe academic education is a priority and strive to develop the full potential of students as an extension of their educational experience. We believe that maintaining a safe, yet challenging environment assists our students in developing interpersonal skills and acts as a catalyst in instituting a strong sense of connectedness and wellness.

Lifeguard

General Hours: Mon-Fri 6am-10pm, Sat 8am-8pm, Sun 10am-8pm

Basic Duties: Provide a safe swimming environment by enforcing rules, policies and responding to emergencies.

Requirements: Certified in American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED and First Aid

Rec Center Facility Coordinator

General Hours: Mon-Fri 6am-10pm, Sat 8am-8pm, Sun, 10am-8pm

Basic Duties: Responsibilities are to maintain the safety and well-being of all Recreation drop-in and program participants across all Recreation sites.

Requirements: Certified in American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid

Rec Center Pro Shop / Front Desk

General Hours: Mon-Fri 6am-10pm, Sat 8am-8pm, Sun 10am-8pm

Basic Duties: Provides Customer Service to members and patrons entering the facility.

Requirements: Strong communication skills and customer service background preferred

Outdoor Pursuits, Team Building

General Hours: Mainly weekends, some weeknights

Basic Duties: Facilitate team building programs & challenge courses

Requirements: CPR certification, comfortable in social situations

Outdoor Pursuits, Climbing Wall Attendant

General Hours: weekdays 2-9pm, weekends 2-6pm

Basic Duties: supervision of climbing wall and equipment, belay testing

Requirements: CPR Certification, belay certification

Outdoor Pursuits, Youth Climbing Team Coach

General Hours: Mondays & Thursdays 4-7pm, Wednesdays 2-7pm

Basic Duties: Plan and supervise youth climbing practices, trips and activities for 5-16 year olds

Requirements: CPR Certification, belay certification, background check

Outdoor Pursuits, Assistant Trip Leader

General Hours: evenings and weekends (often overnight)

Basic Duties: coordinate logistics for outdoor trips & lead peers in outdoor activities

Requirements: Completion of the Trip Leader Training Program

Intramural Official

General Hours: Sunday-Thursday 5-11pm, some weekends

Basic Duties: officiate games, set-up equipment, track scores

Requirements: Good oral communication skills, background in sport preferred

Sports: flag football, basketball, volleyball, softball, soccer

Equestrian Barn Worker

General Hours: Saturday/Sunday 8am-12pm; Mon-Fri 7am-10am; 3pm-9pm

Basic Duties: stall cleaning, feeding horses, turnout/bring in, facility upkeep

Requirements: strong work ethic, ability to lift 30-50 lbs regularly

Youth Gymnastics Instructor

General Hours: Mon-Fri 4-8pm, some weekends

Basic Duties: teach gymnastics classes for 2-12 year olds

Personal Trainer

General Hours: varies, flexible

Basic Duties: assist individuals or small groups in developing exercise plans

Assistant Makos Swim Coach

Personal trainers for Miami University are hired to assess, design, and supervise exercise programs for Recreational Center patrons. Trainers must have an appropriate understanding of human physiology, anatomy, biomechanics, and kinesiology.
