Dr. Stevens has teaching and research interests in political ecology and the sustainability of tropical agricultural systems.

He regularly teaches ITS 201 H – Introduction to International Studies for Honors students; ITS 365 A - Rethinking American Power; ITS/ATH 301 - Intercultural Relations; and ITS 402 P - Food, Energy and Sustainability.

Charles has served as a University Studies adviser, as well advising for International Studies and the track in Global Human Rights and Justice in the Social Justice Studies major. Stevens has been nominated for Outstanding Professor (2011-2012) and Effective Educator Award (2011-2012).


Stevens has research experience in the South Pacific, the Caribbean and with Native American peoples in the American Southeast and Southwest.

Other Activities

Dr. Stevens has conducted ethnographic interviews with small farmers in the Ohio Valley, has been active in the local and sustainable agriculture and food movement, and has co-instructed workshops on sustainable food systems in the Commonwealth of Dominica.

Stevens' duties within the International Studies Program include assisting with administrative activities especially regarding scholarships and awards and curriculum development.
