COURSE OFFERINGS

Gijón (May 21-June 29). 6 credits from:

  • SPN 312 (Introduction to Spanish Linguistics)
  • SPN 317 (Business Spanish)
  • SPN 342 (Spanish Conversation)
  • SPN 352 (Cultural History of Spain II)
  • SPN 382 (Spanish Language and Culture II)

Cultural trip (June 30-July 15). 3 credits

  • SPN 370 (Tasting Spain). Exploration of Spanish culture through travel and cuisine. Students will take cooking classes and participate in culinary events while visiting sites of important artistic or historical value, such as Bilbao, San Sebastián, Olite, Logroño, Zaragoza, Albarracín, Alcañiz, Valencia, Toledo, Madrid, Almagro (classical play in the “corral de comedias”), Úbeda, Baeza, Córdoba, Cádiz, Sevilla, and more.

PROGRAM TRIPS

  • Ribera del Duero (May 22-23). Visits in León and Tordesillas.
  • Paris (May 29-June 1)
  • There will also be two long weekends for individual travel

HOW DOES THIS WORK WITH YOUR SPANISH MINOR OR MAJOR?

MINOR: you can finish your minor in Spain
If you have taken 311, and 315 or 312 by December 2019, then:

Spring 2020: take 351
Spain 2020: take 352 + (312 or 317 or 342) + 370

OR

Spring 2020: take 381
Spain 2020: take 382 (352 or 317 or 342) + 370

MAJOR: you can finish several requirements for you major, with only 400-level courses and the capstone requirements after the program in Spain.

  • The following courses offered in Spain fulfill requirements for the Spanish major: SPN 312, 352, 382
  • The following courses count towards the Spanish major electives: SPN 317, 342, 370

COST

Program Fee, 4,400 + Tuition (per credit: $558.93 for Ohio residents and $953.77 for non-Ohio residents)

LOCATION

Students live with families in Gijón (Asturias). 15 miles away from Oviedo and from an international airport, on the shores of the Cantabrian Sea, Gijón offers an attractive combination of maritime tradition, monumental heritage, and modern urban planning right on the seashore. Its marina is a testament to its close links with the sea throughout its history.
