Ryan Schuerkamp HeadshotRyan Schuerkamp is graduating summa cum laude with a Bachelors and Masters of Science in Computer Science, a Bachelors of Science in Data Science and Statistics, and honors with distinction.

While at Miami, Ryan was extensively involved in research and a member of Redhawk Ventures (a student-run venture capital fund) and the Blockchain Club. He applied machine learning to cybersecurity with Professor Suman Bhunia during his freshman year. During his sophomore and junior years, he worked on modeling and simulation for adolescent suicide prevention with Professor Philippe Giabbanelli and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Throughout his sophomore, junior, and senior years, Ryan researched Fuzzy Cognitive Maps (an interpretable simulation model) with Professor Philippe Giabbanelli. During his summers, Ryan interned at Joot (a financial technology startup based in Cincinnati) and Artisan Partners (an asset manager) and developed a machine learning-based approach for fluid resuscitation at Carnegie Mellon University. After graduation, Ryan will continue his education and pursue his Doctorate in the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University. He hopes to advance machine learning methods and continue addressing pressing public health and healthcare issues. Ryan would like to thank everyone who has supported him during his time at Miami, especially his family and friends for their love and support and his advisors and professors for their mentorship and guidance.
