Urban Cohort offers Cleveland Winter Immersion Program

Miami University offers a transformative non-credit workshop scheduled for January 5-26, 2024. This three-week urban residential program will take place in the Ohio City neighborhood of Cleveland, providing students with an immersive community experience.

Students will have the opportunity to work closely with the local community in various capacities:

  1. 20 Hours a Week in Partner Schools: Participants will contribute their skills and talents to partner schools in Ohio City, fostering relationships with both educators and students.
  2. 20 Hours a Week in Partner Community Agencies: Students will engage in meaningful projects with partner community agencies, making a positive impact on the neighborhood.

Additionally, the program offers a well-rounded experience with a range of evening and weekend activities that include neighborhood events, and governmental meetings. Weekly seminars will focus on urban communities through discussions, readings, activities, and journaling.

Participants in this program can expect to:

  • Build Community Relationships: Miami University students will have the chance to meet and build connections with community stakeholders and families through their internship experiences.
  • Immerse in the Local Culture: The program offers opportunities to engage in urban community activities, explore the history and culture of Cleveland, and deepen awareness of the civic ecology of Ohio City.
  • Volunteer in Schools: Participants will connect with local schools and students through volunteer experiences in urban school settings, potentially contributing to community-based curriculum projects led by Ohio City teachers.
  • Promote Social Justice: The program encourages students to reflect on the connections between their field of study and social justice, offering a unique opportunity to make a difference.
