Streamline Living Learning Community Fee Collection
The Recreation Sports Center facilitates the management of four different Living Learning Communities (LLC) for the Office of Residence Life. These LLC’s are focused on Equestrian, Outdoor Pursuits, Sports & Recreation and Health & Wellness. The residents of these communities not only share a course with each other but participate in group programming to help build strong bonds and a network of friends who have similar goals.
Organizing the community and arranging the programs is a multi-step process that includes reaching out to students over the summer to ensure the completion of required bursar forms and communicating the fees involved with the programming. This has been a very time consuming process that the staff wanted to streamline to improve the experience and reduce time and costs of organizing activities.
A Lean team led by Bill Sparks utilized currently available software to update the student housing selection process and created a streamlined future state that will significantly reduce the time required to schedule students. In addition, the new process that will be in place for fall 2020 will be paperless and should increase the overall program satisfaction as the fee is now more transparent and requires no additional action on the part of the student. This improvement in the process will also allow Rec Sports staff additional time to support students and enhance the Miami experience
