Biography
Dr. Anne M. (Annie) Farrell is the PricewaterhouseCoopers Professor of Accountancy and Chair for the Accountancy Department at Miami University's Farmer School of Business. Dr. Farrell has a Ph.D. from Michigan State University, an M.S. from George Mason University and a B.B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. Prior to her doctoral program, she was the manager of corporate financial reporting and a senior internal auditor for Gannett Co., Inc. in Washington, DC; an analyst for The Hearst Corporation in New York; and an auditor with Deloitte, Haskins & Sells in New York. Dr. Farrell was also on the faculties at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and The American University.
Dr. Farrell's research examines how performance measurement and control systems can be designed to influence and facilitate effective and efficient decision-making within organizations. Her work has been published in The Accounting Review, Contemporary Accounting Research, the Journal of Financial Economics, European Accounting Review, the Journal of Management Accounting Research, and Frontiers In Human Neuroscience. She has also published practitioner summaries of her research in the Journal of Financial Planning, Strategic Finance, and FM-Financial Management, as well as a case study in Accounting Perspectives.
Dr. Farrell serves as an editor at Contemporary Accounting Research and Management Accounting Research and as editor of Studies in Managerial and Financial Accounting; she is a former editor at Behavioral Research in Accounting. She is on the Board of Trustees for the Ohio CPA Foundation and has served on the Board of the American Accounting Association and in leadership positions in the American Accounting Association Management Accounting and Accounting, Behavior and Organizations sections. Dr. Farrell is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) and a Chartered Global Management Accountant, and is a member of the American Accounting Association, the Canadian Academic Accounting Association, the European Accounting Association, the Society for Neuroeconomics, the Ohio-Miami Valley Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience, the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants (AICPA), and the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA).
