Provider Programs

A Provider Program is a program where students are earning credit through another institution and transferring it back to Miami. These programs are offered for a Summer or Winter term, a full semester, or full academic year. These programs are not Miami campuses and are not facilitated by Miami professors. Students from across the United States (not just from Miami) participate in Provider Programs.

About Provider Programs

These institutions tend to provide American-style support services like orientation, health and safety support, housing arrangements, and support with course offerings and registration. Sometimes the institution will have a study center in the host location where students attend courses facilitated by the provider, and others facilitate the enrollment of students at a local partner institution where students will take courses alongside local and other international students.

Miami University offers hundreds of Provider Program options, all of which fall into one of two billing categories: Approved Non-Miami or Co-Sponsored. Below you will find more information on each of these billing methods. The best way to find a program that works for you is to do some independent research using the search features on our website and come talk to an Education Abroad Advisor.

Provider Programs are Good for Students Who:

  • Like to meet new people. Students could have the opportunity to meet local students and other students from around the U.S. who are participating in the program.
  • Would like to fulfill major or minor requirements while abroad. Many programs have a wide variety of courses, and some have courses pre-approved by the Farmer School of Business.
  • Would like to study abroad in a location that Miami does not currently offer in their program offerings.

FAQ

Will the Co-Sponsored or Appoved billing method be the most cost-effective for me?

It depends on your financial aid package. Please be sure to review the financial information and program costs with your Education Abroad Advisor to see what kind of program is more cost-effective for you. Even if you cannot use Miami scholarships toward your program fee, many program providers will offer scholarships and grant opportunities to students in their programs.

Will my credits automatically transfer back?

Credits taken abroad will transfer back as long as you request that a transcript be sent to Miami at the end of your program. Whether or not these credits will fulfill graduation requirements will be determined by your Transfer Credit Approval Form. For more information on how to complete this form, please contact your Education Abroad Advisor.

Will there be other Miami students in the program?

We cannot guarantee that there will be other Miami students in these programs. It is likely that you could be the only Miami student in the program. Other program participants would be students from other institutions across the United States.
