Prepare for Studying Abroad: Better prepare for your time abroad by taking IDS 154 (Introduction to Study Abroad).

Exploring Study Abroad Opportunities Step-by-Step

  1. Before beginning the process, please complete our informational survey so that our office can learn a little more about your study abroad plans and how we may be able to best support you. You should receive a follow up email in 2-4 days with additional information and resources to guide you on your journey.
  2. Plan to attend Miami Abroad 101. This session is led by the Director of Education Abroad and Student Ambassadors. This session is offered on Zoom every Tuesday that classes are in session at 4:00 PM and every Wednesday at 1:00 PM. Please email global@MiamiOH.edu to register and receive the Zoom link. The purpose of this session is to provide you a general understanding of study abroad, provide resources, answer all questions.
  3. Utilize communication with our Study Abroad Ambassadors to answer any general questions you may have! Are you deciding between two programs, for example? Just drop by the Education Abroad Office in MacMillan 214!
    Mondays: 10:00 to 11:00 AM, 2:00 - 3:00 PM
    Tuesdays: 1:30 to 2:30 PM
    Wednesdays: 11:00 - 12:00 PM, 2:00 - 3:00 PM
    Thursdays: 11:45 to 12:45 PM, 4:00 -5:00 PM
  4. Search for program options on the Education Abroad website. You can narrow down search parameters in your search or speak with our ambassadors to help you refine your search!
  5. After each of these steps have led you through the initial steps in your study abroad discovery, you may call our office at 513-529-8600 to set up an appointment.

  • How will my credits transfer back to Miami?

Scholarships/Fees

  • How much does it cost?
  • How can I apply for scholarships to fund my education abroad?

Travel Preparation and Safety

  • How do I prepare to study abroad?
  • Are there safety concerns I should be aware of?
  • What should I pack?
  • How will I use the transportation system?
  • How does my phone work abroad?

Living and Learning Conditions Abroad

  • What is it like being abroad?
  • What is housing like abroad? Host family/campus housing?
  • Do I have to speak the local language?
  • How do I manage class in addition to everything else going on?
  • How difficult/easy are classes & assignments?
  • What should I budget for food and other personal expenses?

Planning Independent Trips/Tours

  • How will I plan independent travel weekends?
  • How much should I plan to spend?

Making Friends/Socializing

  • Do I have any friends going with me? Can I choose roommates?
  • Will it be easy to make friends?

Keeping in Touch with Family/Friends

  • How will I keep in touch with my family and friends?
