General Function
Provides basic medical treatment and assists physicians in the treatment and care of patients
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions
- Measure and record patients' vital signs (height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, etc.) and obtain and record medical history.
- Records patients' conditions, treatments, prescriptions, and test results; maintains patient files.
- Answer patients' calls. Provide basic advice and schedule appointments. Assess urgency of treatment needs.
- Provide basic patient care and treatments, to include administering medications, informing patients of lab results, and educating patients regarding the proper use of medications.
- Oversee the stock of supplies.
Reporting Relationships
Direction Received: Reports to Nurse Supervisor
Direction Given: Occasional training and instruction of other nursing staff
Minimum Requirements
Valid Ohio LPN license and at least one year of nursing experience
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
- Knowledge of medical procedures and equipment
- Ability to make good decisions in emergency situations
- Knowledge of medications
Working Conditions
Physical effort usually requires considerable walking, standing, and lifting of materials weighing 25 to 50 pounds. Somewhat unpleasant conditions with health hazards.
