Student Technology Fee

Tech Fee FY25 Applications to be Accepted Starting August 19

A pool of funds from the Student Technology Fee has been created to stimulate the development of innovative student-focused technology projects on the Oxford campus. The Student Technology Fee funds programs and services that support students in achieving their academic program goals and enhancing their life at Miami.

Any student, faculty member, staff member, group, or department on the Oxford campus may submit a proposal. Proposals must be submitted in accordance with the approved tech fee guidelines for expenditures (below).

The funds are divided into three pools, as follows:

  • Ongoing Student Services: Provides funds to keep technology in classrooms up to date, funds positions dedicated to student support, pays wages for IT Services student staff, and provides maintenance for software in support of student services.
  • Dean's Allocations: This portion is allocated to the School, the Colleges, and the Libraries for each dean to respond to student technology needs in their division.
  • Competitive Proposal Process: Provides funds for innovative student-focused technology projects submitted by students, faculty, or staff. Note: The updated guidelines for FY24 are now available.

Divisional Allocations

The $525,000 total in divisional funds is allocated as follows:

  • Arts and Science (CAS): $136,267
  • Business (FSB): $101,315
  • Education (CEHS): $65,360
  • Engineering (CEC): $51,327
  • Creative Arts (CCA): $41,878
  • Library (LIB): $79,233
  • Student Affairs (SAF): $49,620

The FY25 Divisional Allocations will be available in fall 2024, once the 2024/25 enrollment totals have been calculated.

  • August 19, 2024: Announce Call for Proposals
  • August 19, 2024: Call for Reviewers sent to Divisional Contacts
  • September 11, 2024: Open Informational Meeting - virtual (9 - 11 a.m.)
  • September 29, 2024, at midnight: Proposals Due to Deans/VP
  • September 29 - October 2, 2024: Divisions review proposals
    • Fund by division
    • Advance to the competitive process
  • September 29, 2024: Reviewer’s names due from divisions
  • September 29 - October 4, 2024: Finalize Info for Review Session
  • October 5, 2024: Reviewers meet (virtual) to discuss and score proposals
  • October 7 - 11, 2024: ITPC Sub Committee meets to summarize scores and advance the list for approval
  • October 14 - 27, 2024: IT Reviews - Technical, Security, and Accessibility
  • October 28 - November 1, 2024: ITPC Confirmed Recommendations
  • November 4, 2024: Spending Plans Due from Deans
  • Week of November 4, 2024: Applicants/Div. Point Contacts Notified of Funding Decisions
  • November 2024: Approved Funding Released to Divisional Accounts (competitive and divisional)
  • August 1, 2024: Final Reports Due for any previous Divisional Allocations and Competitive Awards
  • August 1, 2025: Final Reports Due for FY24-25 Divisional Allocations and Competitive Awards
