Message from the Chief of Police
Welcome to Miami University!
The Miami University Police Department staff is here to help make your time on campus a pleasant one. We endeavor to do all that is possible to build an environment that promotes a feeling of safety and security.
The University campus covers over 3 square miles and supports over 19,000 students, 5500 faculty and staff, plus thousands of visitors to the University campus. Whether your business here is as an undergraduate student, patron of the arts, faculty member, university staff, conference visitor, athletics fan or for any other reason, we are working hard to make campus a place in which you can comfortably live, work, learn or recreate.
Our Police Officers patrol the campus 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. They patrol on foot, bicycles and vehicles. They provide any police related service needed on campus. Their job is to assure the physical safety of university buildings and occupants. Miami University Police also has a state of the art emergency communications/dispatch center to serve our community. This center is also staffed 24/7 and handles all emergency and non-emergency calls made to the department.
We offer a variety of programs and information sources to help the University community deal with public safety issues. Current crime statistics and other public safety related information is available on our web site. Please take a moment to review the rest of this site for information on some of the safety programs offered by the University as well as safety tips. Other services are available by contacting our department at 513-529-2222.
Please feel free to contact me directly with questions or concerns and once again, welcome to Miami University.
Stephen A. VanWinkle
