Experience Design MFA

Design is all around, but sometimes design fails us. The road sign that makes you feel more lost. The calendar app that wastes your time. The restaurant service that ties your stomach in knots. People deserve better experiences. That's why Miami University created the Master of Fine Arts in Experience Design (xdMFA), a transdisciplinary degree that combines design research, technology, leadership, and innovation to give you the expertise you need to create a brighter future for all of us.

Design Is All Around Us

Gain the design thinking, knowledge, and skills required for developing high fidelity, people-driven outcomes at personal and systemic levels. Coursework synthesizes design research, service, user experience, and communication design, for both digital and physical technologies. Exercises, projects, and learning experiences help you develop practical, analytical, creative, emotional, and social intelligences. You'll be prepared to enter a wide range of design practices as a designer or educator equipped to lead and develop culturally relevant design innovations in complex contexts.
No matter where you are, the xdMFA is within reach. Online classes make learning flexible and each semester, the xdMFA cohort visits a different location in North America to research and design in context for a long weekend. Past cohorts have visited places like Zion National Park, New Orleans, Santa Fe, Montreal, and even our own hometown of Oxford, Ohio.
