Biography
Dr. Jeannie Martin is a distinguished expert in conservation with a rich academic and professional background. She holds a B.S. from Juniata College, an M.S. in Zoology from Miami University, and a Ph.D. in Conservation Psychology from the University of the Cumberlands. Additionally, she has a certificate in non-profit and national service management from the University of Washington and is a graduate of the Emerging Wildlife Conservation program.
Dr. Martin began her career managing sea turtle nesting research both nationally and internationally, leading to her impactful role at the Georgia Sea Turtle Center (GSTC). At GSTC, she served as a rehabilitation technician, founded the GSTC AmeriCorps program, and launched the Georgia Sea Turtle Marine Debris Initiative. Her work garnered national and international recognition, including being named an international sea turtle champion by the International Sea Turtle Society in 2019.
In 2019, Dr. Martin transitioned to education and field-based conservation, joining Coastal Pines Technical College as a full-time biology professor while serving as adjunct faculty for Miami University of Ohio. As faculty, she has been honored as a Georgia Governor's Teaching Fellow and received a Faculty Commendation from Miami University’s Project Dragonfly. Outside her employment, she serves as the Executive Director of the Georgia Pines Institute (GPI), she also leads efforts in ecosystem conservation and community education.
Dr. Martin’s expertise spans academia, conservation, and nonprofit leadership. Outside her professional roles, she enjoys guiding students in conservation education, participating in endangered species conservation, and traveling with her family.
