Biography
...has a robust curiosity for the natural world. As a young child, she could be found outside looking under logs and rocks for salamanders, wishing on dandelions, and watching in awe as the night sky filled with lightning bugs and stars. She carried this curiosity into her educational pursuits and professional endeavors. During her undergraduate studies, she researched the beginnings of environmental education in the United States. To understand how to instill a newfound sense of excitement and engagement for work as an ecological educator, she conducted an action research project with seasoned educators during her master’s program. For her dissertation research she explored the long-term effects of a profound experience with nature — an experience that shifts an individual’s view of or relationship with the natural world — and learned how such an experience can change an individual’s understanding of self, relationships with others, and behaviors toward the environment. Prior to joining Project Dragonfly, Becky shared her love of the natural world in formal and non-formal educational settings, inspiring a love and respect for nature in children and adults alike. The natural world is her passion and loves exploring new places, hiking, watching sunsets, and more recently, searching for giant trolls in the Pacific Northwest.
