High-achieving students who are interested in contemporary global issues will gain a greater understanding of world affairs in this program. It provides a greater depth of understanding to students preparing for careers in public, private, and non-governmental sectors related to international concerns. These students will enjoy the following benefits:

  • Backstage passes for interaction with guest speakers, including academics, writers, politicians, and activists whose work enhances the understanding of global and regional issues.
  • A Scholars-only, first-year seminar organized around discussion of current global affairs that allows students the opportunity to closely interact with several faculty members about their global experiences and research expertise.
  • Opportunity for placement in mentored research training in the area of Global Studies.
  • Guaranteed placement in the Global Connections Living-Learning Community, where American and international students live in the same residence hall to encourage cross-cultural exchange. Scholars who indicate this community as their first choice for campus housing are guaranteed placement.
  • Individualized global internship advising from Global Studies faculty to help identify and apply for international internships in connection with study abroad opportunities.

To be considered for the Global Studies Scholars Program, you must select a major in the College of Arts and Science and select the following Professional/Academic Area of Interest on the Common Application: International Studies or Diplomacy and Global Affairs.
