Scholarships and Awards

For Incoming Students

Miami University offers a wide range of scholarships to incoming students based on numerous factors including financial need, diversity, talent, academic performance, and intended area of interest. Be sure to fill out a FAFSA form through the Office of Financial Aid.

In addition, the Department of Theatre offers the following scholarships to incoming students, based on creative and/or academic promise. Your admission interview/audition serves as your scholarship audition.

Complete your audition/interview by March 1 to receive priority consideration for departmental scholarships!

  • The Willa S. Yeck Scholarship (renewable for 4 years)
  • The Homer and Henrietta Abegglen Theatre Scholarship (one year award)
  • The American Collegiate Talent Showcase (one year award)
  • The College of Creative Arts Scholarship (one year award)
  • The Western College Theatre Scholarship (one year award)

Creative Arts Scholars

The Department of Theatre will submit the names of incoming students with exceptional academic records and demonstrated creative talent for consideration as Creative Arts Scholars. Benefits include:

  • A University Academic Scholars Program scholarship
  • Preferential awarding for merit scholarships
  • Alumni mentoring
  • A seat on the Dean's Student Advisory Council
  • Funded outings to museums, performances, and other arts-related events

Scholarship notification is typically sent by the University mid-March. If you have questions before March, please feel free to contact us.


Scholarships For Continuing Students

Many scholarships are available for continuing majors and minors. Students who wish to be considered may nominate themselves or may be nominated by a fellow student, faculty, or staff member. Nominations are made in February of each year and the awards are given at the annual Department Awards Ceremony in April.

  • The Homer and Henrietta Abegglen Scholar Leader Award
  • The Homer and Henrietta Abegglen Theatre Scholarship
    Awarded on the basis of academic achievement
  • The Biz and Bob Campbell Scholarship for Junior/Senior Theatre students
    Awarded to an undergraduate pursuing a theatre degree [major or minor] entering junior or senior year who demonstrates leadership and merit in non-performance area, and shows progress toward completing degree requirements, given with "the hope that the recipient will use his/her talents toward the betterment of community theatre."
  • The Loren Gates Memorial Scholarship
    A one year scholarship awarded on basis of merit
  • The Clara Vance Fixmer Theatre & Journalism Scholarship
    Offered alternately to theatre and journalism students
  • The Ronald C. Kern Theatre Scholarship
    Awarded to an upper level student in theatre or performing arts
  • The Emmanuel N. Kladitis Theatre Scholarship
    Undergraduate theatre major, based on talent, merit, need
  • The Mollie Weller Memorial Award
    Undergraduate pursuing a theatre degree [major or minor] who demonstrates an extraordinary commitment to and talent in theatre, academic merit, and financial need
  • The Hurst Family Scholarship for Theatre
    Awarded to one or more undergraduate seniors planning to start a career in theatre. Preference shall be given to students demonstrating promise in the area of acting and directing.
  • The Sherry Darling Theatre Award for Theatre Majors
    Student demonstrating excellence in research and writing, outstanding achievement on a research paper. Student must submit writing sample (it may be from a class assignment)
  • The David Gallagher Playwriting Award
    Upper level student demonstrating potential for excellence in playwriting
