FAQs

Is there a limit to how many people I can invite?

No. There is plenty of seating and you may invite as many people as you like

Do my guests need to RSVP for the ceremony?

No.

Are tickets required for the ceremony?

No.

Is academic attire required to participate in the ceremony?

Yes.

Are there any policies regarding decorating graduation caps?

Many students enjoy decorating their caps and this is perfectly acceptable. Naturally, we would expect that anything you put on your cap would be appropriate and make Miami and your family proud

Will concessions be available?

Concessions are not available at the Ceremony. There are vending machines located on the lower level of Goggin by the skate shop. There will also be a reception for the graduates and their families immediately following the ceremony where light refreshments will be served

Is the reception open to family and friends?

Yes.

I'm not graduating until December 2017. Can I still walk in the spring ceremony?

Yes. Only those who are scheduled to graduate in May or August will be able to complete the online ceremony attendance form. Thus, you must send an email to commencement@miamioh.edu (copy to mosskp@miamioh.edu) notifying them of your intention to walk in the University and/or Divisional ceremonies. If you have questions about this, contact Lisa Farthing at Lisa.Farthing@MiamiOH.edu or 529-3840.

How can I secure my personal items during the ceremony?

It is important that you do not take purses, bags or other personal items with you into the arena for the ceremony. The ceremony process often requires participants to be seated in a different area/seat after they receive their diploma. This means that personal belongings left at your original seat will be irretrievable until AFTER the ceremony. For your convenience in securing personal items, you may wish to use the lockers provided near the vending area at Goggin. The vending area is located near the skate shop on lower level of Goggin, just outside doors to the practice arena. There is a fifty-cent fee for each use.
