Addiction, the brain, and how we can change

Explore the connections between the world of neuroscience and nuances of substance use disorders with our inaugural episode of In Such a Place. We’ll speak with Dr. Anna Radke, a leading expert in the science behind addictive behaviors, to learn more about addiction and navigate the broader societal need for better therapies that address substance use disorders. 

Growing through it

Students, including those working through college, are feeling the aftershocks of a global pandemic. In the years following the COVID-19 outbreak and subsequent lockdowns, mental health concerns have surfaced. Dr. Dawna “Cricket” Meehan, director of Miami University’s School-Based Center of Excellence for Prevention and Early Intervention, joins President Greg Crawford to discuss what challenges mental health professionals are seeing come up through the college pipeline, as well as what the future holds for school-age children as they grow through the education system.

Lead a project and earn honors in Psychology

In the Departmental Honors Program, advanced students work closely with a faculty advisor to develop and conduct an original research project.

Course-Based Research

Research is integrated into the Psychology curriculum from required courses like to PSY 294 Writing and Research Methods in Psychology to advanced electives.

The Ohio School-Based Center of Excellence for Prevention and Early Intervention is committed to ongoing applied research, pre-service education of future clinicians, in-service training of educators and mental health professionals, and direct clinical and consultative service to school districts and community partners.

The Psychology Training Clinic offers doctoral students in our Clinical program on-site training and experience. Students conduct psychotherapy and psychological assessments under the supervision of licensed clinical psychologists.

The Laboratory of Animal Resources (LAR) is a 13,000 square foot facility that houses Miami's animal research subjects. The state of the art facility includes conventional animal rooms, transgenic suites, 2 surgical rooms and adjacent treatment and prep areas. This resource directly supports and is adjacent to the Behavioral Neuroscience laboratories.

The Center for Human Psychophysiology provides access to modern cognitive and behavioral neuroscience technologies. These technologies allow researchers who are interested in aspects of psychology, cognition, and neural processing to augment behavioral methodologies with a variety of noninvasive measures of human brain function such as EEG.
