GFP graduates awarded Grosvenor Teacher Fellowships and embarked on Lindblad voyages aboard the National Geographic Explorer
Dorsey earned a Master of Arts (MA) in biology from Miami through Project Dragonfly‘s Global Field Program . Dorsey’s international fieldwork with Project Dragonfly included studying island biogeography and whale sharks in Baja, Mexico ; investigating orangutans and sustainable palm oil solutions in Borneo ; and investigating coral reefs, manatees, howler monkeys, jaguars, and other wildlife in Belize . As a GFP student, Dorsey connected many of her master’s assignments into her work as a museum educator.
Dorsey is an artist and educator inspired by the constant iteration, evolution, expansion, overlapping, and layering of systems in the natural world. She uses the creative process as her framework for exploring the world. She is passionate about facilitating interdisciplinary educational experiences for PreK-12th-grade students that spark curiosity while cultivating creative and critical thinking. She has a drive to innovate and maintains a reflective practice informed by equity research. She combines her art and science backgrounds as a means of storytelling while building partnerships to develop programs focused on science, technology, engineering, art, and math (STEAM). Because of her unique contributions to the field, Susan was named a Grosvenor Teacher Fellow with Lindblad Expeditions and National Geographic. She received the 2019 Eastern Region Museum Educator Art Educator Award, and the 2017 Maryland Museum Art Educator of the Year Award. Mauro earned a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in the biological sciences from Miami through Project Dragonfly‘s Global Field Program . Mauro’s international fieldwork with Project Dragonfly includes examining the forces of evolutionary, geologic, and social change in the Galapagos and studying the frontline conservation strategies of the Cheetah Conservation Fund (CCF) in partnering with local communities to save wildlife in Namibia . Mauro connects many of her master’s assignments into her work as a school library media specialist.
Mauro is an elementary school library media specialist and technology leader at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. She has a passion for exploring our world and creates inquiry-driven lessons that allow her students the opportunity to become environmental stewards. Mauro aspires to empower her students to collaborate, problem solve, and take action on global issues. Recently, she has developed a love for scientific diving and conservation biology.
