Initiatives

The SESC forefronts the EHS Core Principles in all aspects of programming and services provided while SESC’s purpose is buttressed by Miami University’s “commitment to liberal arts undergraduate education with mission to empower students, faculty and staff to become engaged citizens who use their knowledge and skills with integrity and compassion to improve the future of our global society.”

SESC Will Create and Produce:

  • Education services (i.e., courses, guest lectures, programs, workshops, consultation, and curriculum) for audiences within EHS, the Miami University campus and community partners both local (e.g., schools, human service agencies, and religious entities) and national (e.g., credentialing bodies and professional organizations).
  • Opportunities for research, publishing and public scholarship.
  • Formal mentoring relationships such as undergraduate associates, service learning, internships, and professional development partnerships.
  • Training, continuing education and certification supervision (e.g. American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists; Council on Social Work Education and the National Council on Family Relations).

Undergraduate Assistants (UAs) for the SESC

The SESC has several opportunities for students to get involved! Whether you have time in your schedule to be part of a classroom experience or would rather work more behind the scenes, the SESC has something for everyone.

Students can sign up for 1-3 credit hours of independent study, depending on how many hours they would like to incorporate into their schedules.

FSW 365 Classroom UA

Work with instructor Megan Kuykendoll, the Director of the SESC, in facilitating class discussions, working directly with students, grading, building community, and assisting in otger projects. Students also collaborate with other students in this work.

UA for the SESC

Do you prefer working individually on projects or assisting in managing social media? If so, then working in the Sexuality Education Studies CEnter may be perfect for you. Here you will collaborate with director Kuykendoll and other UAs on student-centered projects and initiatives.
