EDL Registration Override Request Instructions
Your EDL advisor is here to help navigate your academic interests and help you achieve your goals. Meeting with an advisor each term is one of the best connections students can make on campus because advisors have both broad knowledge of the interworkings of the university and specialized knowledge of your field in Educational Leadership. Your advisor can help you make strategic decisions about career goals, utilizing university resources, class scheduling, internships, and much more. Locate your advisor on the EHS Advisors page and email them today to schedule an appointment at McGuffey Hall or via Zoom. How to Prepare for Advising Appointments
Spending ten minutes to prepare for your advising appointment will help you make the most out of your time. To prepare for an advising meeting, reflect on your current academic program requirements, and think about your bigger goals about why you’re at college, and what you hope to achieve. Then, write down a few questions, think about your current plans and programs, and think about how to best use the time with your advisor. Here is a checklist of how to prepare for advising appointments to get you started.
- Assess your academic goals
- Reflect on your career goals and bring questions about next steps
- Review your degree audit (DAR) and degree requirements
- Compose a tentative, written schedule based on your plan of study (if registering for courses)
- Review the academic calendar for registration dates and add-drop deadlines
- Reflect on your time management, work-life balance, and mindfulness skills and ask any questions about these processes

Internships
Internships are an excellent way to gain experience in your chosen field prior to entering your career. It is an opportunity to build relationships, realistic expectations for your career path, and insights into your field of interest.
EDL’s Civic Summer Fellows Internship gives Community, Leadership, and Social Change Minor students direct field experience that prepares them for careers in education or related fields. Application cycles begin in spring semesters. Civic Summer Fellows is an opportunity to enhance knowledge and skills through working in your local or regional community in nonprofits, community-based organizations, or education-related institutions and centers.
