Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions

  • Reviews work orders and investigates site; determines proper repair procedures; estimates time and materials needed.
  • Performs repair work; replaces tile; repairs doors and window; unstops sinks and other plumbing fixtures; repairs steam valves; replaces motors and pumps on heating/air conditioning equipment; repairs electric switches and receptacles.
  • Serves as informational resource to staff.
  • Plans and conducts a comprehensive preventive maintenance program.
  • Cleans and maintains tools and equipment.
  • May assist in setting up of stages, rigging, curtains, and lighting system for special events.

Reporting Relationships

Direction Received: Reports to Area Shop Supervisor or Assistant Manager of Special Events.

Direction Given: Training and instruction of classified staff. May provide functional guidance to classified staff on a project basis.

Minimum Requirements

Requires six months of mechanical/trade training beyond high school and two years of repair/maintenance experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience; requires driver's license.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

  • Knowledge of carpentry, electricity, and plumbing repair and maintenance
  • Knowledge of mechanical repair
  • Ability to read schematics

Working Conditions

Continuous standing or walking, frequent climbing, and lifting of materials weighing up to 75 pounds. Somewhat disagreeable working conditions. Some exposure to several unpleasant elements which are particularly disagreeable.
