Brief description of project: The Library checks out various cables and power adapters for students to use with their laptops and mobile devices. This is a highly used service by students. With the upgrade in technology to USB-C it will be necessary to provide these options for checkout.

Does this project focus on graduate student education or graduate student life?: No

Describe the problem you are attempting to solve and your approach for solving that problem.: Some of the most highly circulated and in demand items at the Miami Libraries are laptop charging devices and the various dongles for connecting laptops and other devices to video/ethernet. Mac chargers were checked out 10,463 times and PC chargers 2,115 times for last fiscal year. To support this the Libraries need to upgrade offerings to include the newest generation of devices which have moved to the USB-C standard connection. This is one of the services most requested by students.

The criteria state that technology fee projects should benefit students in innovative and/or significant ways. How would you describe the innovation and/or significance of your project?: This project will benefit all students who want connectivity and power for current generation devices in our campus libraries. It is highly used and responds to the innovation of the vendors.

How will you assess the project?: We will assess the project using circulation statistics. The number of times the items circulate will determine the success of the project.

Have you applied for and/or received Tech Fee awards in past years?: Yes

If funded, what results did you achieve?: Checkout laptops for students has been a very successful project.

Did you submit a final report?: Yes

What happens to the project in year two and beyond? Will there be any ongoing costs such as software or hardware maintenance, supplies, staffing, etc.? How will these be funded?: There will be regular wear and tear on the hardware and some replacement cost will be part of the project. We will use other sources of funding to maintain this.
