Our goal throughout the SOUL application and selection process is to learn about you and your unique qualities so that we can select a team that best represents the Miami community and values. Please consider this goal as you complete the SOUL application. The application includes the following sections:
In this section, you will be asked to provide contact information and academic information (e.g. pronouns, major, graduation year).
In the campus involvement section, you will be asked to provide information about meaningful involvement you have had at Miami (it's okay if you're just starting to get involved!), and we will ask you to upload a resume or activity sheet.
In the conditions of employment section, you will be asked to agree to the SOUL position requirements outlined in the SOUL position description.
In the short answer section, our goal is to get to know more about you and what's important to you. Please answer each question as honestly and authentically as possible. Please thoughtfully and thoroughly consider each question. We highly recommend working on your application via Word or Google document before you submit it via our online form. This year's short answer questions are:
You will be asked to provide the names and email addresses of one person who can serve as a recommendation for you. Your recommender will be asked to fill out a recommendation form on your behalf. Specifically, your recommender will be asked how you have displayed the SOUL team values of honesty and integrity (especially when it is most difficult), sincerity of self, compassion for others, and teamwork.
You should contact your recommender before submitting your SOUL application so that they have ample time to consider your candidacy and because your recommender will receive an automatic email from Orientation and Transition Programs once you submit your application. It is also good professional practice to ask any recommender if they're able to serve as a positive recommendation ahead of submitting any application.
While your recommender will receive a link to the electronic form from Orientation and Transition Programs (OTP), it is the applicant's responsibility to ensure submission from their recommendation. Your recommender does not need to wait for an email from OTP to fill out the recommendation form; they can do so anytime by visiting the recommendation form submission page. For priority consideration, recommendation forms must be submitted by the priority application deadline on Sunday, Nov. 3 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Final applications and recommendation forms will be accepted through Thursday, Jan. 30 at 11:59 p.m. EST.
To help us better understand where SOUL applicants learn about the SOUL position, the last section of the SOUL application will ask you to let us know where you learned about the SOUL position. We'll use this information for recruitment purposes in future years.
Orientation and Transition Programs is committed to providing an accessible SOUL recruitment process. OTP works collaboratively with The Miller Center for Student Disability Services in coordinating accommodations to enable full participation in the SOUL recruitment and application experience. To request disability related accommodations please contact Andrea Howard (howar182@MiamiOH.edu) and Allyson Nakanishi (nakania@MiamiOH.edu), Assistant Directors of Orientation and Transition Programs.
