Program Schedule
Thursday, August 20 (evening)
Honors Student Advisory Board (HSAB) Welcome to Miami and the Honors College
Join us for an evening of welcome, fostered connections, community building, and fun activities sponsored by the Honors Student Advisory & Activities Board (HSAB) and the Office of Residence Life at the Honors Residential College (HRC).
Friday, August 21 (morning)
Students engage in workshops focused on student engagement and enrichment opportunities designed to enhance your curricular and co-curricular experience while in the Honors College and beyond. Students will have the opportunity to select the sessions they wish to attend, placing them in the driver's seat of what they want to do and attend, much like their future Honor Experiences.
Friday, August 21 (afternoon)
Honors College Launch for Success and Honors College Convocation.
Attend the Honors College Convocation to officially begin your time as an Honors College Student at Miami University. Gain valuable insights and information to kickstart your journey in the Honors College while also being more formally introduced to the Dean of the Honors College, Honors College Staff, Student Leadership, and on-campus resources.
FAQs
When can I register for the Honors College Launch for Success?
All incoming Honors College students will be able to register for the Honors College Launch for success beginning on May 14 at 1 p.m. Eastern time and ended on July 20 at 11:59 p.m.
What is the Honors College Launch for Success?
A pre-semester program designed just for incoming Honors College students. You’ll move in one day early, connect with your fellow Honors College student community, and get a head start on your Honors College experience at Miami University.
When does the program start and end?
Move-in: Thursday, August 20th
Programming begins Thursday evening with some fun and community building programming sponsored by the Honors Student Advisory and Activities Board (HSAB) and the Office of Residence Life. Things begin again on Friday morning and run through Friday afternoon with the Honors College Convocation.
Can I participate in another Miami Bound program and still do the Honors Launch for Success?
Though we strongly encourage you to consider the Honors College Launch for Success, yes, absolutely! Many Miami Bound programs end by Friday morning or early afternoon, which means you can attend another Miami Bound program, and still join us for the Honors College Convocation in the afternoon.
If you are interested in another Miami Bound program, please register for that program and then contact Student Transitions and Family Engagement (orientation@MiamiOH.edu) to also be added to the Honors College Launch for Success.
What if I only want to do the Honors College Launch for Success?
That’s great, too! You’ll be fully engaged from Thursday evening through Friday afternoon with time built in for you to get breakfast and lunch with others, and then fully participate in the Welcome Weekend!
Why should I do this?
You’ll meet other Honors students, learn what to expect in your first semester, and make valuable connections that will support you all year long. You will also be provided with opportunities to attend special sessions that you want to attend to learn more about various offerings from the Honors College and beyond.
When will I hear more about this program?
We will discuss Launch for Success at all Honors College presentations during orientation and emails to all incoming first-year students with more details will be sent after the Miami Bound registration window closes leading up to move-in day.
What if I move-in after August 20?
We will welcome you with an invitation to meet your assigned honors advisor in the first few weeks of the semester.
What if I am a commuter student?
You can still participate and are strongly encouraged to do so! Most events will take place in classrooms or outside and are available to all incoming Honors College students. Check your email for more details in August.
During move-in, parking will be limited and it might be best to ensure you are ready with your parking pass for the upcoming year ahead of Friday and park in the remote lot closest to the HRC buildings, which would be the Ditmer Field Lot. It takes about 10 minutes to navigate from the Ditmer Field Lot to the HRC via the sidewalk along Route 73/Oxford-Trenton Road. The HRC building area will be accessible as you walk up towards campus. The BCRTA Oxford bus routes will not be running on Thursday, August 20th; however, they will be running on Friday, August 21st. Utilize the Western Campus/North Loop w/Ditmer bus route to get from the Ditmer lot to the central part of campus. Students, faculty and staff with Miami IDs can ride fare-free on BCRTA routes on campus.
Do I have to participate?
Honors College students should, at a minimum, attend the Friday afternoon Honors College Convocation.
Any first-year Honors College student that is not registered for another Miami Bound program and living within the Honors Residential College will participate in all Thursday evening and Friday sessions as their first introduction to resources, opportunities, and support from the Honors College and select campus partners.
Students participating in another Miami Bound program or Miami University-related involvement, such as university athletics or marching band, should plan to attend Launch for Success events as their schedule allows. As students complete their other Miami Bound programs Friday morning/early afternoon, they will join the rest of the first-year Honors College students for the required Friday afternoon Honors College Convocation.
