Pre-Orientation Checklist

We are excited to welcome you to the Miami University Regionals. Before you begin your classes, there are some things you need to do to be prepared. Please follow this list and don’t hesitate to reach out to rosa@MiamiOH.edu if you have any questions. 

Welcome to the Miami University Regionals Family!

1. Confirm Enrollment

   Students must confirm admission to Miami University Regionals and enroll in Duo two-factor authentication prior to registering for orientation.

2. Log In and Set Up Duo two-factor Authentication

   Your admission letter includes log-in information for your first time accessing Miami websites. As part of the log-in process, students will be prompted to enroll in Duo two-factor authentication automatically when accessing a Miami resource after confirming admission. If you have questions about Duo, see our IT Knowledge Base, and/or our IT Services Duo guide. 
   
   We recommend downloading Duo Mobile for iPhone or Duo Mobile for Android on your own mobile device, and plan to bring that device with you to orientation. You'll need it to log in to campus computers, including for course registration.

3. Register and Complete your Online Orientation

   All incoming students will complete an online orientation course in Canvas. This course is specialized based on your student type (new, transfer, CCP, etc.). The course should take no longer than 30-45 minutes to complete, and includes information that should help you get to know all about your Miami Regionals experience.

4. Take Your Placement Tests and Submit Transcripts (if applicable)

   Your academic advisor will need test scores or proof that you have completed college courses to help you choose the best classes during your advising appointment.
   
   If you have any college credit or took the SAT/ACT, you will want to make sure that your official transcripts and/or official SAT/ACT scores are uploaded to your applicant portal. 
   
   If you: (1) don't have either SAT/ACT scores, (2) you took the test(s) more than 2 years ago, or (3) don't have college credit for ENG 111 or College Algebra or higher, you will need to take 1-3 placement tests in the Tutoring and Learning Center. 

5. Schedule your SOAR Session, orientation advising appointment, or small group registration session

   Once you have completed your online orientation course, the next step will depend on your student type.

   1. First Year New to College: you will sign up online for a half-day SOAR session, which will include advising & registration. This is part of the online orientation registration process.

   2. Transfer: you will receive an email to your MiamiOH email from Academic Advising with a link to schedule an appointment.

   3. College Credit Plus (CCP): you will sign up for an in-person CCP SOAR session, or a virtual session if you cannot travel to campus. This is part of the online orientation registration process.

7. Submit ePromise Agreement

   The ePromise Financial Responsibility Agreement outlines your financial responsibility to the university. This is a required step prior to registering for classes.

8. Complete your FAFSA online

   Need-based financial aid and scholarships are available through completion of the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students must complete a FAFSA each year to be considered for all need-based scholarships, grants, and federal loans. Miami University's Federal School Code 003077.
