InterfACE Mentor Program

four students standing togetherthree students posing with a projectInterfACE is an interactive program where peer mentors who speak English as their first language work with a small group of international students in the ACE Program as a component of their ACE 112 class. Sessions happen weekly on Tuesdays from 6-8 pm, and the times and locations will be included on student schedules. Their role is to facilitate weekly discussions centered around cultural topics and themes relevant to life in the United States and at Miami University.

Additionally, partners will engage with ACE students outside of the Tuesday meetings in a mentorship capacity, by checking in with them outside of meetings, as well as taking their group into the Miami and Oxford Community to engage more broadly in their first semester.

Student Thoughts on Their Mentors

  • "She is a very good mentor. She talks to us patiently every time, and she carefully remembers what we say every time. She is a very caring person. At the same time, she also provided me with a lot of help in my studies and campus life in Miami, so that I could understand the university better and adapt to the university better. Every time she sent us an email, she always sent a lot of things, especially caring..."
  • "She is a great mentor. In addition to the course content, we can communicate on other topics, which helped me understand the United States and the Miami University better."
  • "She helped me a lot and if I have some questions, she always gives me some advices and help to solve these problems. And she also teaches me some study skills; it is very useful."
  • "This part is quite helpful. We had a great time and covered a lot of cultural differences. I also learned a lot from this session on how to deal with stress, learn a new language, study, and learn more about the university. I wish I could have more often than once each week."
  • "I very much like her, because she is very great and interesting. She is just like my sister who teaches me something, and those things make me be a better person, it is let me feel sad this semester is over we can't see each other."
