Computer Requirements

The Department of Art highly recommends a Macintosh laptop computer outfitted with specific software (see list below).

Communication Design students: View additional requirements

• For specifications and costs of the computers, visit the Miami University Bookstore's Miami Notebook site. While other laptops may appear to be equivalent to the one we specify, we cannot guarantee their compatibility with our curricular needs.
• Financing for computers may be available through the First Miami Student/Alumni Federal Credit Union.

Hardware

• Apple MacBook Pro - Laptop Computer
• 16-inch display
• At least 18GB of Memory (RAM)

Software

• Adobe Creative Suite Design Premium or Adobe Creative Cloud subscription. Make sure to get student pricing when you sign up.*
• Microsoft Office 365 (Free for Miami students)

*Note: We use Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Adobe Fonts, and Figma almost daily.

Optional

Color Inkjet Printer (8.5 x 11" minimum); Scanner; Mouse; Drawing Tablet

• Processor: M3 or greater
• RAM: 18GB or greater
• Storage: 1 TB or greater
• Screen size: 14" minimum, 16" highly recommended
