The Specialist degree program offered through the Miami University School Psychology program is a three-year, 74 semester-hour program, designed specifically to meet NASP/CAEP accreditation standards and to lead to state and national credentialing as a school psychologist.
Students obtain a Master’s of Science degree at the completion of the first year of study and comprehensive examinations.
After completion of the supervised internship with 1200+ hours (end of the third year) and a passing score on the Praxis School Psychology exam, students receive a school psychology license (pupil services license) from the Department of Education, State of Ohio and are eligible to become a Nationally Certified School Psychologist (NCSP).
The state credential allows for employment as a school psychologist within Ohio. The NCSP credential indicates completion of a program that meets national standards and increases the likelihood of certification in other states.
The Specialist degree is awarded after the student successfully completes the internship year and successfully defends their small group research project.
