Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities—Essential Functions

  • Installs and maintains hardware and software for department's network and/or database systems; installs other software and electronic equipment for department.
  • Maintains and performs minor repair to computer and other electronic equipment for department; identifies and resolves problems.
  • Researches and evaluates new equipment and software; assists in purchasing decisions.
  • Maintains inventory of parts and supplies; reorders as necessary.
  • Trains others in use of department's hardware and software.
  • Oversees student employees; assigns task and schedules work; monitors and evaluates performance.

Reporting Relationships

Direction Received: Reports to Supervisor-Learning Technology Centers, Supervisor-Field Services, or Architect

Direction Given: Functional supervision of a group of student employees working on an ongoing basis

Minimum Requirements

Requires nine months of coursework or training beyond high school in Computer Science and two years experience in maintaining a computer system, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics

  • Knowledge of computers and applicable software
  • Mechanical skills
  • Electrical wiring knowledge

Working Conditions

Physical effort usually requires considerable walking and/or standing. Periodic assignments given which entail dealing with modestly unpleasant situations.
