Student Health Insurance

Miami University requires all full-time Oxford students to be covered by health insurance at all times. Miami University's health insurance is provided by UnitedHealthcare Student Resources (UHCSR).

The form to enroll or waive student health insurance is typically available available in early July.

Miami University requires all full-time Oxford students be covered by health insurance. To that end, all Oxford students registered full-time (when the fall semester bill is generated) are charged for health insurance unless the student has completed and been granted a waiver of the student health insurance.

This process must be completed annually for all full-time Oxford students. This deadline is August 31 this year.

Starting July 1, 2024: Access the student health insurance site to request a waiver, enroll, or learn more (opens in new window and links to external vendor). Use a laptop or desktop computer to complete the process; Google Chrome works best. The site will request the student's Miami email address (uniqueID@miamioh.edu) and date of birth to enter the site.

Note: Student Health Services is available to all students registered for classes, regardless of whether or not you carry the student insurance. However, if you do not use the student health insurance, you should call your insurance company to verify that Miami University with TriHealth is a covered provider.

You can call 833-789-3458 between 9 a.m.-5:30 p.m. (EST) with questions. You can also share questions/concerns to MiamiUniversityOHadvocates@uhcsr.com

International Students

Miami requires all international students registered at Miami to enroll in the Miami-sponsored insurance plan each academic year. All eligible international students will be automatically enrolled in the student health insurance plan. Please see the International Student Scholar Services (ISSS) page on health insurance for more information.

Pathways Students

Miami requires all Pathway students to be covered by health insurance. All eligible students will be automatically enrolled in the Miami-sponsored insurance. If you are currently covered by health insurance (from a parent, spouse, or another source), you must complete an electronic insurance waiver request. The deadline to request the waiver is August 31.

Health Insurance Waiver

If you are currently covered by health insurance (from a parent, spouse, or other source) and you do not want to add Miami's student health plan, you must complete an electronic insurance waiver request.

You are eligible to waive student health insurance if you meet the following criteria.

  • You are already covered by an insurance plan provided by a company licensed to do business in the United States, with a U.S. claims payment office and a U.S. phone number.
  • Your plan is currently active and you agree to maintain health insurance coverage throughout the entire 2024-25 academic year.
  • Your plan covers inpatient and outpatient medical care within the Oxford Ohio area (including hospitalization, surgery, medical equipment, pregnancy, and routine care). Emergency and urgent care only coverage does not satisfy the requirement.

Once the waiver request is submitted and the information is verified, a confirmation email is sent to your Miami email account, and a credit is posted to your bursar bill. The deadline to request the waiver is August 31. Students whose enrollment status changes to full-time Oxford (e.g. newly registered students, full-time to part-time, regional relocation, etc.) will have the opportunity to request a waiver at the time of the change even if it is after the deadline.

It is necessary to complete an electronic insurance waiver each year.

Exemptions

If you hold a religious, philosophical, or ethical belief that prohibits you from purchasing the university-sponsored student health insurance plan, you can request an exemption from the requirement.
