Ohio Student Residency Application and Regulations

Procedures

Any student classified as a non-resident of the state of Ohio for tuition purposes may apply for resident status by submitting the Application for Resident Classification for Tuition Purposes. Each application will be reviewed in accordance with Ohio Administrative Code 3333-1-10 and Ohio Revised Code.

Students are strongly advised to fully apprise themselves of the criteria established by the state of Ohio prior to seeking classification as an Ohio resident for tuition purposes. Students who are classified as residents for tuition purposes receive the benefit of a state-supported education, funded primarily by the taxpayers of Ohio. The residency rules are, therefore, meant to exclude from resident classification those people who are in the state of Ohio primarily for the purpose of receiving the benefit of a state-supported education.

Initial residency classifications are determined at the time a student is admitted to Miami University. Students classified as non-residents of the state of Ohio for tuition purposes who feel they may qualify for reclassification may apply for residency status by submitting the application and all supporting documentation listed under their desired classification.

Students who have general questions after reviewing the requirements and Ohio Administrative Code regarding residency for tuition purposes may submit questions via email to residency@MiamiOH.edu. Please allow two business days for a response. While we are always happy to respond to general questions, we cannot advise students on how to qualify for Ohio residency, nor render decisions based on informal inquiries.
