Shafkat Khan
… is Director of Conservation at the Detroit Zoological Society. Shafkat is interested in understanding how anthropogenic drivers lead to changes in biodiversity and is excited to use various conservation measures for addressing climate change and habitat loss. Shafkat also explores interdisciplinary approaches to examining conservation and sustainability. He is passionate about student mentoring and teaching and served as a Visiting Assistant Professor with Project Dragonfly from 2016 to 2021. Shafkat received his doctorate from the University of Georgia’s Odum School of Ecology and his bachelor’s in environmental studies at Goshen College in Indiana. Shafkat grew up in Bangladesh and finds that his non-US experience in formative years informs his conservation outlook.
